Consumer awareness programmes conducted in Wokha Schools

WOKHA — The Department of Legal Metrology and Consumer Protection (LMCP), Wokha, in collaboration with the Consumer Rights Organisation Wokha, conducted consumer awareness programmes across four educational institutions on Monday.


The programmes were held at the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) of Mt. Tiyi College; Witter Theological College; Springdale School; and Bethsaida School, on the theme ‘Legal metrology and consumer protection: The journey towards Viksit Bharat – 2047.’


Delivering the keynote address, Assistant Controller of LMCP Wokha, T Aimong, called upon the business community to uphold ethical practices and honesty in trade. He also encouraged students, youth, and civil society members to become advocates of consumer rights, stressing the importance of vigilance, awareness, and courage in promoting fairness and justice.


Surenthung Enny, member of the District Consumer Redressal Forum, Wokha, served as the resource person. He highlighted the six fundamental consumer rights and their role in empowering individuals and curbing unfair trade practices.

Enny also underscored the significance of informed consumers in building a transparent and accountable marketplace.


The programme concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by LMCP Inspector, Silo Jemu, who expressed appreciation to the participating institutions and stakeholders for their support and cooperation.


The initiative reflects a growing commitment to consumer education and aims to foster a generation of informed citizens capable of upholding consumer rights and contributing to a just and ethical society.
