Committee on Public Undertakings, Nagaland Legislative Assembly, visits Mini Cement plant at Wazeho, Meluri district

DIMAPUR — The Committee on Public Undertakings (COPU), Nagaland Legislative Assembly (NLA), under the chairmanship of Dr. Sukhato A Sema, MLA, undertook a ‘Study tour’ to assess and verify the status of the Mini Cement plant (MCP) at Wazeho, Meluri district, on September 17 and the 18th.
Dr. Sukhato was accompanied by other COPU member Dr. Neisatuo Mero, MLA; special invitee Z Nyusietho Nyuthe, MLA of 20-Meluri AC and Advisor for New & Renewal Energy and NSDMA, and the officials from the Nagaland Legislative Assembly Secretariat, an update stated.
The committee physically inspected the two projects — 150 TPD Mini Cement Plant (MCP) and the Decorative & Dimensional Stone Plant (DDSP), Wazeho.
During the course of inspection, the committee was informed by the NSMDCL that the Mini Cement Plant (MCP), Wazeho was leased out to M/s Ramung Enterprises for a period of 30 years and the MoU between the two parties was signed on November 12, 2024.

Though repair and renovation of the old machinery and equipment was done, it was reported that the trial production of cement would not be able to start in the month of October due to weather condition.
The committee was also informed that the lime found in the area is the finest in the whole region of north-east as a result of which 43-grade quality cement can be produced.
The demonstration of the cement plant manufacturing was put into operation and shown to the committee.

“The committee was pleased to see the functional operation of the Decorative & Dimensional Stone Plant (DDSP), wherein interlocking bricks and hollow block bricks were being manufactured,” the update stated.
The committee also discussed at length about the declared proposal of inland waterways which will help to market the cement products to the neighbouring countries like Myanmar and other South East Asian countries in future.
“The committee felt the need of setting up of administration office at Wazeho as it is vital because it provides structure, organisation, and efficiency for business operations, allowing companies to achieve their goals by managing daily tasks, facilitating communication, optimising resources, maintaining a professional image, and ensuring compliance and an opportunity to the local people for employment and setting up their business,” it added.
Overall, the committee was satisfied with the practical arrangements in place for the trial production of 43 grade cement by M/s Ramung Enterprise and the operation of Decorative & Dimensional Stone Plant.
The committee conveyed its appreciation to Z Nyusietho Nyuthe; Secretary in-charge of NLA; DGP and other police officials; DC Phek; ADC Pfutsero; DC Meluri; Department of Geology & Mining; and the NSMDCL for all the logistic support extended during the visit.
The committee further thanked the chief minister for supporting the initiative of reviving the MCP for generation of revenue for the state and also conveyed its appreciation to the Speaker NLA for letting the committee undertake the study tour.
