Kohima College and others across Nagaland organise academic talks, mock parliament sessions, AI workshops, and outreach activities.
DIMAPUR — Multiple colleges and universities across Nagaland organised academic and youth programmes, including skill development workshops, seminars, community outreach drives, and youth fests.
Kohima College: The Skill Development Committee of Kohima College organised a panel discussion on "Entrepreneurship skills and business strategies" at the college campus on September 25.
According to an update, the event brought together entrepreneurs and creators from Nagaland to share their experiences and insights with the students.
The panel comprised four entrepreneurs: Imtisunep Longchar, co-founder of ilando.com; Thejasevi Putsure, co-founder of Premium Naga Organic; Loni Khing, pastry chef and co-founder of Naga Bowl Bakery; and Jonathan Tseibu Rutsa, host and creator of the "My Dad's Office" podcast.
The discussion highlighted the importance of employing Naga youths and providing them with skills to become professionals. The panellists pointed out that entrepreneurship is fundamentally about creativity and the ability to see value in something where others might not.
The panellists shared several key attributes essential for entrepreneurial success, including humility, taking feedback, building skills consistently, discipline, and the willingness to learn again.
Meanwhile, the Department of History at Kohima College introduced a Postgraduate Alumni Guest Teaching Programme, conducted from August 24 to September 24, aimed at providing postgraduate alumni with teaching experience.
The initiative saw seven postgraduate alumni serve as guest faculty in the department, teaching undergraduate and first-semester postgraduate students while completing a minimum of 21 contact hours each. The programme featured a two-alumni peer-teaching model, wherein each class involved one alumnus serving as the teacher and another as the observer to provide feedback after every session, supported by short video recordings of every class for documentation and quality assurance.
Patkai Christian College: The Departments of History and Political Science at Patkai Christian College organised an inter-departmental talk on the theme “History, politics and representation” on September 25 at Bundrock Chapel Hall in Chümoukedima.
The first presentation, titled “Political representation in India: Qualifications and criminalisation,” was delivered by Elirhoni O Patton from the Department of Political Science. The paper examined electoral qualifications, the criminalisation of politics, the roles of the Election Commission of India, Parliament, and the Supreme Court, and Section 8 of the Representation of the People Act regarding disqualification after conviction, while underlining the presumption of innocence.
Akumtemsu from the Department of History presented the second paper, titled “The Inner Line Regulation: A historical reflection”, tracing the historical development of the ILR from colonial administration to its evolution as a protective measure for indigenous communities.
The third presentation, titled “A feminist critique of patriarchy in Indian society”, was delivered by D Chiluni from the Department of Political Science, exploring liberal, Marxist, and socialist feminist perspectives on family structures, domestic relations, gender expectations, and intimate partner violence.
Ajarik Silginchi Marak from the Department of History delivered the final presentation, titled “A brief survey on Garos in the nineteenth century”, examining Garo oral traditions, colonial accounts, raids, trade, and the matrilineal system.
Modern College: The Department of Political Science at Modern College organised its Annual Mock Parliament at the college indoor stadium on September 25 to provide students with a practical understanding of parliamentary democracy.
The session featured debates on issues including 'Delimitation and women’s reservation', 'Youth employment and education', 'Mines, minerals and environmental protection', and 'Judicial independence and tribunal reforms'.
Peteneikho Nakhro from the treasury bench and Albert Ezung from the opposition bench were adjudged the best speakers of the session.
Sao Chang College: The Science departments of Sao Chang College, Tuensang, organised an extension service programme at Government High School (GHS), Chare, followed by an educational tour to Nagaland University, Lumami, on September 24 and 25.
The team, comprising 18 students and seven assistant professors, held science presentations at the Town Hall in Chare for Class 9 and 10 students on topics including viruses, the chemistry of light, and electromagnetic induction, followed by a visit to GHS Chare.
On September 25, the team visited the university library and the departments of Botany, Chemistry, Zoology, Forestry, Physics, Mathematics, and Environmental Science at Nagaland University, Lumami.
Additionally, the Red Ribbon Club of Sao Chang College organised a flash mob at five locations across Tuensang town on September 25 and 26 as part of the Intensified IEC Campaign launched by the National AIDS Control Organisation (NACO).
Around 200 people witnessed performances held at the college campus, NAP Taxi Stand, Clock Tower, Bazaar Police Point, and RB Gate Police Point to raise awareness of HIV & AIDS prevention and address stigma.
ICFAI University Nagaland: The ICFAI University Nagaland celebrated its annual IUN Youth Festival 2026 on September 23 and 24 at its university campus, bringing together students from the university and various colleges and higher educational institutions from across Nagaland and neighbouring areas.
Throughout the festival, participants took part in a wide range of cultural, creative, and entertainment activities that tested their athletic ability, creativity, teamwork, confidence, and stage presence.
The two-day celebration culminated in a musical extravaganza featuring performances by three artists, Shau Evans, Sunep Lemtur, and DJ Boom.
MITE: The Modern Institute of Teacher Education (MITE), Kohima, conducted an outreach activity and baseline household survey on Saturday at Chedema village under the Unnat Bharat Abhiyan (UBA) Cell.
First-semester B.Ed. student-teachers gathered data across socio-economic parameters, including household information, migration status, water and power access, landholdings, agricultural produce, livestock, and the reach of government schemes. Student-teachers also clarified doubts regarding eligibility and benefits under various schemes.
C-Edge College: C-Edge College organised a pre-observation programme for World Tourism Day 2026 at Manen Hall on September 25 on the theme “Tourism and sustainable transformation”.
Lochumi N Shitio of Voyages Travels and Meyatemsu, Assistant Professor in the Department of English, served as resource persons. The speakers highlighted the changing dynamics of the tourism sector, the role of digital technology and AI in destination promotion, and the need to combine technological advancement with responsible tourism practices.
Mount Mary College: The Department of Education at Mount Mary College, Chümoukedima, organised a community outreach programme at the Chümoukedima Area Baptist Women Fellowship (CABWF) Old Age Home on Saturday on the theme “The gift of presence”.
The programme was organised with the objective of fostering empathy, compassion, respect, and companionship among students while creating an opportunity for them to engage with and learn from the elderly residents.
Ngaichin Singson, Head of the Department of Education, highlighted the importance of extending care, respect, and companionship to the elderly. Senzungkala Jamir, Coordinator of the CABWF Old Age Home, shared that the facility has been operational since 2018 to provide care, spiritual support, and dignity to elderly persons.
The visit concluded with recreational activities and gift presentations.
Immanuel College: Immanuel College in Dimapur conducted an IBM SkillsBuild Training Programme on artificial intelligence (AI) on September 25, organised by the Edunet Foundation, Gurugram, Haryana. Soft Skills Trainer Kamalesh Krishnaraj served as the resource person.
