The College of Veterinary Science and Animal Husbandry in Jalukie celebrates World Veterinary Day with animal health camps and vaccination drives.

DIMAPUR — The College of Veterinary Science and Animal Husbandry under the Central Agricultural University (CAU) Imphal in Jalukie, Peren, celebrated World Veterinary Day on the theme "Veterinarians: Guardians of food and health" on Saturday.
The event was held under the leadership of in-charge Dean Dr. SK Borthakur and convener Dr. Tukheswar Chutia, Assistant Professor in the Department of Veterinary Gynaecology and Obstetrics.
According to an update, on the occasion, an awareness-cum-animal infertility camp was conducted in Dungki village in the Peren district. During the awareness programme, resource persons highlighted food safety, animal health, and public health.
Awareness was provided through lectures on "Enhance livestock and poultry productivity through better management" by Dr. Imtiwat, Assistant Professor in the Department of Livestock Production Management; "Importance of bio-security practices in livestock farm" by Dr. Bhabesh Mili, Assistant Professor in the Department of Veterinary Physiology and Biochemistry; and "Common infertility problems in farm livestock and management" by Dr. Tukheswar Chutia.

A total of 56 participants, comprising 48 farmers and eight officials, attended the programme. Reproductive health check-ups, surgical operations, and deworming were performed during the camp. Vitamins, mineral mixtures, anthelmintics, antibiotics, antiseptics, and other veterinary medicines were distributed to farmers, covering a total of 211 pigs, 74 cattle, 59 buffaloes, nine dogs, and 372 poultry.
A deworming and vaccination drive was also conducted in Jalukie-B village, where 47 dogs were dewormed and 60 dogs were vaccinated with the anti-rabies vaccine.
The programme was conducted by Dr. Gunjan Das, Professor and Head of the Department of Veterinary Medicine; Dr. Ksh Mahesh Singh, Assistant Professor in the Department of Animal Genetics and Breeding; and Dr. Sashitola Ozukum, Assistant Professor in the Department of Veterinary Clinical Complex, along with eight intern students.
Further, a poster-making competition on the theme was held at the college to encourage active participation among students. All prize winners were awarded certificates.
The competition was conducted by Dr. W Ramdas Singh, Assistant Professor in the Department of Veterinary Pharmacology and Toxicology; Dr. Amrit Gogoi, Assistant Professor in the Department of Veterinary Pathology; and Dr. N Bhumapati Devi, Assistant Professor in the Department of Veterinary Clinical Complex.
