DIMAPUR — The Chakhesang Youth Front (CYF) has condemned the report of sexual assault and death threats against one of its members in Phek district, allegedly committed by Hekugha Chophy on September 24.
In a condemnation note, the organisation stated that the accused had previously committed the same offence against the victim on multiple occasions.
The CYF appealed to the law enforcement agency to intensify the investigation and arrest the accused at the earliest, stating that his continued presence in public poses a threat not only to the victim but also to other citizens of the region. It warned that the CYF “shall not remain a mute spectator but will initiate its own course of action if the perpetrator is not arrested at the earliest.”
The organisation also appealed to the public not to expose the identity of the victim. “Protecting the identity of the victim should be the utmost priority of all right-thinking citizens,” it stated, cautioning that the CYF would take action against any individual or group revealing the victim’s identity and ensure they are booked under the relevant sections of the law.

The CYF further warned that any individual or group aiding, providing shelter or protection to the accused, or even remaining silent about his whereabouts, would be held equally responsible for the crime.
It urged the public to inform the law enforcement agency of any possible sightings or reliable information about the accused. The CYF also said that its members may be contacted for assistance if anyone faces difficulties in reaching the authorities.
Expressing concern over the rising crimes against women, the CYF reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring safety and justice within and beyond its jurisdiction. It called upon all citizens to condemn the act and cooperate with law enforcement agencies to ensure swift justice for the victim.
