Nagaland officials discuss accurate identification and inclusion of persons with disabilities in the upcoming Census 2027.
DIMAPUR — State Commissioner for Persons with Disabilities Tongpang L Jamir held a discussion with Director of Census Operations Dr. Kenei Miachieo and Deputy Director of Census Operations Imkongnungsang regarding the inclusion and accurate identification of persons with disabilities (PwDs) in the upcoming census exercise.
According to a DIPR report, the meeting focused on the importance of ensuring that all 21 types of disabilities are covered and that no person with a disability is left behind or excluded from the census.
The officials discussed the need for a comprehensive and inclusive approach to ensure that persons with disabilities across Nagaland are properly identified and their information is accurately captured during the enumeration process.
A key area of discussion was the training and sensitisation of enumerators. It was stressed that enumerators should be adequately trained to understand the different types of disabilities and to identify persons with disabilities correctly and sensitively during census enumeration.

The state commissioner highlighted that accurate and comprehensive disability data is essential for effective planning, policy formulation, resource allocation, and the implementation of government schemes and programmes for persons with disabilities.
Dr. Miachieo also highlighted the importance of creating awareness among enumerators and ensuring that the census process is conducted with sensitivity, dignity, and respect for the rights of persons with disabilities.
The officials further discussed the need for coordination with the office of the State Commission for Persons with Disabilities on matters relating to disability identification and enumeration.
