DIMAPUR — A one-day sensitisation programme on the theme ‘Welcome dear daughter–celebrate her birth, nurture her growth’ was held at the sub-divisional office, Jakhama, Kohima district, on July 12.
The event was organised by the Kohima district administration, in collaboration with SANKALP - District Hub for Empowerment of Women (DHEW) Kohima, Naga Hospital Authority Kohima (NHAK), and the Department of Post, a DIPR report stated.
The programme aimed to raise awareness on the importance of valuing and nurturing the girl child. A host of services and awareness activities were provided during the event, including free health check-up by Dr. Neiphrenuo Sekhose, paediatrician and SNCU Medical Officer, NHAK.
On-the-spot Aadhaar enrolment for girls aged 0–5 years, facilitated by the district administration, in coordination with the Department of Social Welfare, was also condcuted.

Additionally, financial literacy sessions on schemes for girls and women such as Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana and Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana (PMMVY) were also held.
Vidilhounuo Solo, financial literacy specialist from DHEW Kohima, elaborated on the benefits of the PMMVY, while Sharon Losu from the Department of Post highlighted various postal schemes aimed at empowering women and the girl child.
To commemorate the occasion, EAC Kohima, Ane Khieya, along with other officials, planted trees named after girl children, symbolising their growth and importance in society.
The programme was chaired by gender specialist Vikeduozo Sorhie, DHEW Kohima, while welcome address was delivered by Ane Khieya.
