DIMAPUR — A district-level awareness programme on adoption regulation and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act was conducted at the Deputy Commissioner’s conference hall in Shamator on Tuesday.
According to a DIPR report, the programme was organised by the District Child Protection Unit (DCPU), Shamator.
Lulun Singson, Officer-in-Charge of Police Station Shamator, delivered a short speech stressing the importance of community vigilance and cooperation in preventing crimes against children.
A detailed presentation on the POCSO Act was given by Cherry Ovung, Legal-cum-Probation Officer at DCPU Shamator. She elaborated on the provisions of the Act, reporting mechanisms, and the responsibilities of individuals and institutions in protecting children from sexual offences.

Mungphula, Member of the Child Welfare Committee, Shamator, spoke on adoption regulations and guidelines. She explained the legal procedures, eligibility criteria, and the importance of ensuring transparency and child welfare in the adoption process.
An interactive session followed, where participants engaged with the speakers, raising questions and clarifying doubts related to adoption and child protection laws.
