An awareness programme on sericulture under Mera Resham Mera Abhiman was held in Chümoukedima, highlighting modern technologies to boost cocoon production

DIMAPUR — An awareness programme under Mera Resham Mera Abhiman (MRMA) was organised at Amaluma Village Community Hall in Chümoukedima on Tuesday with the objective of sensitising farmers on the latest developments in the field of sericulture.
According to an update, the programme was attended by District Sericulture Officer Mayangjal Walling, Scientist-B Dr. Anil Kumar ST, and Supervisor and Farm In-charge Zhipen.
Addressing the gathering, Dr. Kumar highlighted the innovative technologies in sericulture that can significantly improve productivity and income.
These included the construction of modern silkworm rearing houses with controlled temperature and humidity, the adoption of disinfectants and bio-based methods for disease prevention, the introduction of high-yielding silkworm breeds to boost cocoon production, and the use of improved reeling and spinning technologies to produce high-quality silk yarn.

Speaking at the event, Walling encouraged farmers to adopt the new technologies developed by the Central Silk Board, emphasising that modern practices are key to ensuring better profitability and sustainable income generation.
The programme also saw participation from local farmers and sericulture stakeholders, who expressed keen interest in adopting the innovative practices demonstrated.
The event concluded with an interactive session, where queries from farmers were addressed by the experts.
