Assam Rifles conducted welfare camps, student interactions, and reviewed security in several Nagaland districts.
DIMAPUR — The Assam Rifles carried out a series of community outreach, skill development, and security assessment programmes across Nagaland on August 25 and 26.
Skill development, outreach in Noklak
In Noklak, the Assam Rifles inaugurated a Sewing Machine Centre on Wednesday as part of its ongoing community outreach and development initiatives.
According to an update, the centre has been established to promote skill development and self-reliance among the local population by providing opportunities to learn tailoring and stitching skills.
Also in Noklak, the Inspector General of Assam Rifles (North) visited Christian Higher Secondary School and interacted with school authorities and students. He appreciated the institution’s efforts towards providing quality education and nurturing the youth of the region. He encouraged the students to pursue education with dedication, develop confidence, and contribute positively towards society.
The Inspector General of Assam Rifles (North) also visited Creative Children’s Friendship Centre in Noklak and interacted with its representatives. He appreciated the organisation’s efforts towards the welfare, development, and empowerment of children and acknowledged its contribution towards the local community.

During the visit, he also interacted with Padma Shri awardee L Hangthing, popularly known as the “Fruit Man of Nagaland”, and appreciated his exemplary contribution to agriculture and progressive fruit cultivation in the region. L Hangthing was conferred the Padma Shri in 2025 for his contribution in the field of agriculture.
Operational readiness reviewed along border
Along the border, the Inspector General of Assam Rifles (North) visited the Dan Company Operating Base (COB) on August 25 and interacted with troops.
During the visit, he reviewed the operational readiness, welfare, and security posture of the troops and assessed the operational security arrangements in the area of responsibility.
The Inspector General of Assam Rifles (North) also interacted with members of the village council and civil society organisations of the Dan village. The representatives highlighted various developmental requirements, including the construction of a paved road from the RCC Bridge to Dan COB and the provision of solar-powered lights in Dan village. He assured the representatives that genuine developmental requirements would be taken up with the concerned authorities.
The civil society organisations also expressed concerns regarding the proposed border fencing in the area, and he apprised them of the security benefits and importance of the fencing while assuring that the concerns of the local population would be considered.
Medical camp in Meluri
In Meluri, the medical camp was conducted at Zhipu village. According to an update, the initiative focused on providing medical assistance and promoting awareness about preventive healthcare and common health concerns among elderly people.
A total of 45 elderly people benefited from the medical camp. The beneficiaries were provided medical assistance and health guidance, with emphasis on regular health examinations, preventive healthcare, proper nutrition, personal hygiene, and the maintenance of a healthy lifestyle.
Participants were also encouraged to seek timely medical consultation and remain attentive to health issues associated with advancing age. The camp provided an opportunity for elderly members of the local community to receive medical guidance in an accessible setting.
Interaction with students in Mon
In the Mon district, Assam Rifles organised a programme titled “A Day with Company Commander” at the Company Operating Base (COB) in Chenmoho.
The programme aimed to foster awareness, aspiration, and confidence among students while highlighting career opportunities in the Assam Rifles.
A total of 55 students participated in the programme. The students were welcomed at COB Chenmoho and briefed about the history, charter, and role of Assam Rifles in border management, internal security, and civic action in the Northeast.
A special interactive session was conducted on career opportunities in the Assam Rifles, covering various entry avenues, training, work profile, and the role of personnel in operational, administrative, and community-orientated duties.
To make the programme engaging, various recreational activities were organised, including a sack race, tug of war, musical chairs, jalebi race, and 100-metre sprint.
An open-house interaction with the company commander was also conducted, during which students raised queries related to career guidance, education, discipline, and personal development.
