Assam Rifles celebrated National Sports Day and held community engagement and rescue activities in Nagaland.
DIMAPUR — Assam Rifles undertook a series of community-centric activities across Nagaland, including rescuing a road accident victim in Zunheboto, hosting community interactions in Peren, and celebrating National Sports Day with multiple sports events.
According to an update, in Zunheboto, Assam Rifles personnel provided timely assistance following a road accident on the Sataka–Zunheboto highway on August 28.
Upon receiving information, a team was deployed to retrieve the accident vehicle from a roadside ditch, clearing the road for traffic. The driver was evacuated to District Hospital, Zunheboto, for medical attention, and local police were informed.
Assam Rifles personnel later visited the driver, who was found to be stable and safe.
In Jalukie, a community interaction programme was conducted at Jalukie B village under the Jalukie sub-division in the Peren district to strengthen relations and understand local needs. Attended by 68 villagers, including the gaon bura, the village chairman, civil society representatives, and youth, the event also saw the distribution of essential amenities by Assam Rifles.

To celebrate National Sports Day, Assam Rifles organised a series of events across the state on August 29:
In Peren, a sports programme was held at PM SHRI Government High School, DC Colony, to promote physical fitness and healthy lifestyles. The event witnessed active participation from students, teachers, and Assam Rifles personnel in various sporting and recreational activities. Personnel also interacted with the students to highlight the role of sports in building resilience and confidence.
In Kohima, a friendly volleyball match was organised between Meriema village youth and Assam Rifles personnel at COB IG Stadium, Kohima, to foster sportsmanship and community engagement.
At Akhegwo in Meluri district, a sports competition was organised for 50 local children. The children participated in high jump, a 100-metre race, and arm wrestling, with winners receiving prizes and refreshments.
In Tobu, a friendly volleyball match was held with the residents of Tobu village on August 29 to encourage youth participation in sports and promote healthy lifestyles.
At Naginimora, Assam Rifles High School hosted several sporting activities, including a jalebi race, a spoon race, badminton, kho-kho, volleyball, and kabaddi. A total of 37 prizes were awarded to the participating students.
