The Angami Students' Union has urged NHIDCL to take immediate safety measures to address recurring landslips, mudslides and rockfalls along key highways during the monsoon season.
DIMAPUR — The Angami Students' Union (ASU) has expressed serious concern over recurring landslips, mudslides and rockfalls along key highway stretches within the Angami jurisdiction during the ongoing monsoon season, warning that the deteriorating road conditions pose a major threat to commuters and public safety.
In a press release, the union said the affected highway corridors are vital lifelines for the region, supporting daily commercial activities and serving as the main route for thousands of students travelling to educational institutions.
The ASU stated that the fragile condition of these road stretches could lead to complete road blockages, endangering lives, disrupting academic activities and affecting the livelihoods of the public.
While acknowledging the importance of ongoing infrastructure development, the union maintained that development should not come at the cost of public safety.

It asserted that relying solely on post-disaster road clearance operations is inadequate when the safety of daily commuters is at stake.
The union urged the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL) and the executing agencies to immediately adopt proactive safety measures, including comprehensive slope stabilisation, installation of slope protection nets, continuous monitoring of vulnerable areas and round-the-clock emergency response preparedness to ensure safe and uninterrupted movement.
Expressing confidence that NHIDCL would respond with urgency, the ASU called on the authorities to address the hazards before any major incident occurs during the monsoon season.
