Kohima administration closes NH-2 at Phesama Sinking Zone on August 2 for restoration work, issuing traffic diversions and safety advisory.
DIMAPUR — Kohima district administration has ordered the temporary closure of a landslide-prone stretch of National Highway-2 at the Phesama Sinking Zone on Sunday, August 2, from 6 am to 6 pm to facilitate restoration work and ensure public safety.
In an order issued on Friday, District Magistrate B Henok Buchem stated that the closure would affect the stretch between Chainage Km 191+840 and Km 192+100 along the Kohima-Mao section of NH-2 due to active sliding of debris from adjoining hill slopes in the Phesama Sinking Zone.
During the closure, all light motor vehicles will be diverted through the Phesama-Kisama/Kigwema route via Rhododendron Resort, which will remain open for two-way traffic.
Heavy motor vehicles travelling towards Manipur have been advised to use the route through Peren district. In emergencies, the Kohima-Jessami and Chakhabama-Zunheboto roads may also be used, subject to prescribed load limits.
