TENING — Advisor for the Department of Civil Administration Works Division (CAWD) and Taxes, Kudecho Khamo, on Thursday called for a united and proactive approach from the public to harness the developmental potential of the Tening sub-division, highlighting the importance of infrastructure, skill development, and honest leadership.


He was addressing the inaugural programme of the new Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Office Complex and the higher secondary block of Government Higher Secondary School (GHSS), Tening. The inaugural programme was held at Town Hall, Tening, in Peren district.


Khamo said Tening is in beautiful hills, gifted with abundant land and fertile soil, posing huge potential for advancement if road construction is undertaken, and for that to happen, it needs the people to be prepared, hard-working, and honest.


He emphasised the need for an optimistic mindset with faith in God to be at par with others, adding that the people of Peren district are situated in an ideal geographical location with huge potential, comparing the gift of land to a gold mine to overcome backwardness.


He said the government sector job market is already saturated and added that the state government has promoted competitive examinations through Nagaland Public Service Commission (NPSC) and Nagaland Staff Selection Board (NSSB); as such, only the finest will secure government jobs.

However, he asserted that skill and entrepreneurship are the way to address the unemployment issue in the state, where the youth should seize the opportunity, which would be in line with Viksit Bharat 2047 for a developed India, wherein various interventions are being introduced.


In this regard, he stated that CM Neiphiu Rio is leading from the front and called for wider participation of the public and community to ensure Nagaland is developed.


Khamo also stated that the state-run schools are employing only qualified teachers, and in this regard, he asserted that the community should support the schools and the teachers. He urged the teachers to give their best efforts to educate the students, adding that the state is, in all seriousness, working towards delivering the best services to the people.


He also dwelled on the New Education Policy (NEP), which emphasises multidisciplinary learning, giving importance to vocational and skill training. As such, he asserted that the students and youth should be employable and fit for any position in the job market, better prepared for competition.


The advisor highlighted the improving state tax scenario in the first quarter of the year.


Khamo also stated the state government is working towards a 'state of excellence', which requires collective efforts, support, and active participation. Furthermore, he sought a collective vision and united efforts to bring about the change the people desire.


MLA of the 6th Tening Assembly Constituency, Namri Nchang, who was the guest of honour, said the occasion was an important day for the people of the Tening sub-division as two new facilities were inaugurated.

He asserted the need to increase enrolment at the Government Higher Secondary School, Tening, and not send students outside, adding that the government has posted equally qualified teachers.


The legislator called upon the public and leaders to take ownership of public and government properties, emphasised the need for sustainable practices and living in harmony with nature, and urged public leaders to convey this to the public.


Deputy Commissioner of Peren, Hiazu Meru, in his speech, lauded the CAWD for the timely completion of the much-needed work in the area. He also called upon the public to take ownership of and care for public offices and properties.


For the development of the district, he challenged the officers in the sub-divisions to put in efforts for the development of the area to uplift the district through education, health, and economy. He also highlighted the various interventions being carried out by the government.


The technical report was presented by Sungtiba Amer, Assistant Chief Engineer, CAWD, Office of the Commissioner.


Advisor Khamo earlier inaugurated the higher secondary block of GHSS Tening and the ADC Office Complex in the presence of MLA Namri Nchang and other dignitaries.
