KOHIMA — Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio, accompanied by Deputy Chief Minister TR Zeliang, met with the 16th Finance Commission led by Chairman Arvind Panagariya on Thursday in New Delhi.
In a post on his X account, Rio expressed his gratitude to the commission for its continued support and commitment to the development of Nagaland.
During his visit to Nagaland in November 2024, Chairman Panagariya had stated that the 16th Finance Commission, which became operational in January 2024, is expected to submit its report to the government of India by October 2025.
At that time, the state government had submitted proposals for capital investments totalling INR 20,000 crore. The proposal included allocations for Revenue Generating Projects (INR 4,000 crore), Capacity Building (INR 2,000 crore), Critical Investment and Thrust Areas (INR 10,000 crore), and Livelihood and Income Generation (INR 4,000 crore).
