Advisor Imkong L Imchen calls for peace and harmony during the Chavang Kut celebration organised by Kuki Union Kohima at Kisama.

DIMAPUR — The Kuki Union Kohima celebrated Chavang Kut on the theme “Unity through culture” at Bamboo Hall, Naga Heritage Village, Kisama, on Saturday.
According to a DIPR report, the celebration was attended by Imkong L Imchen, MLA and advisor for Information and Public Relations and Soil and Water Conservation, as the special guest.
In his address, Imchen stated that the Kuki community, as a tribe and race, possesses a distinct identity and rich cultural heritage. Recalling the tragic family massacre in a village under Athibung Circle, which he had visited and where he made contributions, and the recent confrontation witnessed in Manipur, he expressed hope that such incidents and violence would never be repeated.
He emphasised the need for more stringent law and order mechanisms to maintain peace and harmony.
Imchen further noted that the Kukis have been part of the region’s political journey since the time of the Simon Commission and acknowledged their contributions to the beginning of Naga political history.

He also mentioned the representation of the Kuki community in the Nagaland Legislative Assembly and highlighted the significance of the Mim Kut and Chavang Kut festivals of the Kukis. He added that the festival held at Kisama was beautifully organised.
Paokhokam Singson spoke on the significance of Chavang Kut, while the Küki Cha Kahiuve was coordinated by Hentinlun Vaiphei, joint secretary, Kuki Union Kohima.
Cultural performances included a traditional dance presented by the KSUK St. Joseph College Unit and a song by Thanggoumin Haolai.
Representatives from several public organisations, including the Angami Public Organisation (APO), Kohima Ao Telongjem, SAYO, Sumi Union, Konyak Union Kohima, Nagaland Mizo Welfare Association, and Zeliang Union Kohima, among others, attended the celebration.
The union also acknowledged Imchen and Dr. Tsielhoutuo Ato Rhutso, MLA, for the assistance extended to the union during the celebration.
