NHPS sensitises Nagaland media on AB PM-JAY and CMHIS, highlighting health coverage, eligibility, benefits, hospitalisation and public assistance.

KOHIMA — A one-day media sensitisation programme on Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB PM-JAY) and the Chief Minister Health Insurance Scheme (CMHIS), themed “Enhancing Media Awareness and Public Outreach on AB PM-JAY and CMHIS”, was held on Thursday at the Capital Convention Centre, Kohima.
The programme was organised by the Nagaland Health Protection Society (NHPS), Department of Health & Family Welfare.
AB PM-JAY is a flagship health insurance scheme of the Government of India aimed at providing accessible and affordable healthcare and accelerating the country’s progress towards universal health coverage. The CMHIS is implemented in convergence with AB PM-JAY, with the unified scheme known as AB PM-JAY CMHIS.
According to the department, as of March 2026, there were 64 hospitals empanelled under CMHIS (Employees and Pensioners) within Nagaland and 71 outside the state.
Under PM-JAY/CMHIS (General), 61 hospitals were empanelled within Nagaland, while 32,500 hospitals were empanelled nationwide.
In his address, Thavaseelan K, CEO, NHPS, said the programme aimed to deepen collective understanding of AB PM-JAY and CMHIS, including their objectives, benefits, implementation processes and the challenges encountered in day-to-day implementation.

He highlighted the important role of the media in disseminating accurate information to the public on how to access the benefits available under the schemes.
He also assured that NHPS would continue its efforts to create awareness and expressed hope that the programme would help clarify misconceptions and inaccurate information about the schemes.
During the programme, Dr. Yingnei Wangnao, Deputy CEO, NHPS, gave an overview of AB PM-JAY and CMHIS, including their objectives and benefits.
Livitoli Sukhalu, Deputy CEO, NHPS, presented the eligibility criteria, while Alongla Aier, Operations Manager, NHPS, spoke on the scheme’s policy and design.
According to data presented during the programme, under CMHIS (General) and AB PM-JAY, 2,477 treatments were availed during FY 2026-27, with INR 17,54,54,509 utilised. Under CMHIS, 8,302 treatments were availed during the same financial year, with INR 30,86,62,785 utilised.
Overall, from FY 2018-19 to FY 2026-27, a total of 1,35,900 treatments were availed under CMHIS (General) and AB PM-JAY, with INR 251 crore plus utilised.
Under CMHIS, from FY 2022-23 to FY 2026-27, 57,557 treatments were availed, with INR 226 crore plus utilised.
The programme also highlighted that AB PM-JAY and CMHIS (General) beneficiaries are entitled to health coverage of INR 5 lakh per family per annum on a family-floater basis.
The CMHIS beneficiaries comprising employees and pensioners of the Government of Nagaland are entitled to coverage of INR 20 lakh per family per annum on a family-floater basis.
The schemes provide beneficiaries with free and cashless hospitalisation for treatment of various ailments requiring secondary and tertiary medical and surgical care, as well as defined day-care procedures and follow-up care for pre- and post-hospitalisation.
Outpatient services and standalone diagnostic tests, however, are excluded.
