The Directorate of Economics and Statistics celebrated the 20th National Statistics Day on June 29.

DIMAPUR — The Directorate of Economics and Statistics, Nagaland, celebrated the 20th National Statistics Day on the theme "Unlocking the potential of administrative data" at the directorate premises in Kohima on June 29.
National Statistics Day is celebrated every year on June 29 to commemorate the birth anniversary of Prasanta Chandra Mahalanobis, the eminent statistician and architect of India's modern statistical system, in recognition of his pioneering contributions to the field of statistics and economic planning.
According to a DIPR report, speaking on the theme, Director of Economics and Statistics Neidilhou Keditsu noted that the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation has launched a four-stage consultative process, namely national agenda-setting, a national-level consultative workshop, a state-level internal workshop, and a national deliberative summit.

This initiative aims to build a shared vision and actionable roadmap for the harmonisation of administrative datasets at the state level and for making data machine-readable, interoperable, and AI-ready.
As a preliminary step to achieve this vision, the Directorate of Economics and Statistics has initiated the preparation of metadata of its publications in line with the National Metadata Structure 2.0. Keditsu also encouraged all officers and staff to remain committed to the generation of quality, reliable, and timely statistical data.
As part of the observation, the District Economics and Statistics Office, Wokha, was awarded the Best Performing District Office in recognition of its exemplary effort and outstanding performance during the special drive on online registration of births and deaths held from February 5 to the 20th.
