Twenty NESIDS road projects worth INR 1,036 crore were sanctioned in Nagaland since 2019, according to the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region.

DIMAPUR — A total of 20 road projects with an approved cost of INR 1,036.11 crore were sanctioned in Nagaland between 2019 and 2025 under the North East Special Infrastructure Development Scheme (NESIDS–Roads) of the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (MDoNER), according to the ministry’s latest report updated on January 31, 2026.
The projects fall under the transport and communication sector and are being executed by the Public Works Department (PWD).
As per the report, eight of the 20 projects have been completed. These include development of tourism-related infrastructure (road with heliport) at Tuophema tourist village (INR 17.13 crore); providing connectivity to places of tourist interest in Tuensang district headquarters (INR 25.38 crore); upgradation of road from Naga Lempong to Ahom cave trekking point, Longleng (INR 12.99 crore); and upgradation of road from Wokha headquarters to north Longidang (INR 22.89 crore), all sanctioned in 2019.
Four completed projects fall under the North East Road Sector Development Scheme (NERSDS). These are Dikhu Bridge to Amguri (INR 59.77 crore); upgradation of AT road from Tsuranga to Impur junction (INR 93.98 crore); upgradation of road from Chendang Saddle to Noklak (17.13 km) (INR 62.20 crore); and Chendang Saddle–Noklak Phase II (INR 45.59 crore).
The eight completed projects were approved at a combined cost of INR 339.93 crore, with total reported expenditure of INR 336.07 crore.
Twelve projects are currently ongoing, five of which were sanctioned in 2025. These include upgradation of road from Lampong Sheanghah to Nyasa village via Longphoh, Shangnyu in Mon district (INR 23.09 crore), scheduled for completion by April 2028; and improvement of road from Coco Road (Emlomi Old British Bungalow) to Ghukiye Junction via Kilki Road (INR 29.79 crore), scheduled for completion by February 2027, with expenditure so far of INR 4.42 crore.
Other ongoing 2025 projects include Improvement of road from Phomching HQ (Nagaland) to Longding HQ (Arunachal Pradesh) (INR 58 crore), with expenditure of INR 17.08 crore; upgradation of road from Thizama via Kohima bypass to proposed Chiethu Airport (INR 42.60 crore), with expenditure of INR 6.19 crore; and upgradation of road from Khonoma village to NH-29 via Dzudza River (INR 26.46 crore), with expenditure of INR 6.56 crore.
Several projects sanctioned earlier remain incomplete, including Tening–Lekie Road (INR 136.96 crore, sanctioned in 2019) and upgradation of Tuensang–Longleng Road (INR 217.13 crore), both of which missed their original completion deadlines.
Projects sanctioned in 2022 that are still ongoing include upgradation of Longnak–Mangkolemba Road (INR 28.53 crore); and construction and upgradation of Glory Peak Tourist Road under Phek district (INR 32.50 crore).
