DIMAPUR — The Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER), through the North Eastern Council (NEC), has released INR 4,78,27,552 for Nagaland in November 2025 to support development programmes across sectors, including heritage and cultural centres, youth and sports infrastructure, and initiatives aimed at preserving indigenous traditions while promoting tourism and local enterprise.
According to an update issued on Tuesday, the funding reflects the NEC’s continued commitment to strengthening developmental initiatives in Nagaland through infrastructure improvement, livelihood enhancement, cultural promotion, research and innovation.
NEC stated that project support covers critical sectors such as infrastructure, agriculture and allied activities, tourism, culture and heritage, education, sports, skill development, livelihood promotion and innovation, adding that it remains committed to the timely execution of projects and the timely release of funds in coordination with the state government.

The update highlighted two major Nagaland projects completed during November, including a Rain Water Reservoir for Fire Safety and Skill Training Centre, sanctioned on March 9, 2023 at a cost of INR 381.795 lakh. The project aims to enhance fire-safety infrastructure and disaster-response capabilities, particularly in inter-state border areas. It includes the construction of rainwater-harvesting reservoirs at Dimapur (Assam border) and Khuzama (Manipur border) to ensure reliable water sources for fire-fighting operations.
Additional reservoirs at Dimapur Central, Dimapur West, Khuzama and Chiechama fire stations are expected to strengthen emergency preparedness in view of the high incidence of fire-related disasters and frequent assistance rendered by Nagaland Fire & Emergency Services to neighbouring states, it said.
The project also developed essential facilities at the Skill Training Centre, Chiechama, including residential quarters, barracks, kitchens, classrooms, a drill shed, office space and a playground. The centre will offer structured programmes to equip educated unemployed youth with professional fire-safety skills, creating employment opportunities in both government and private sectors.
The other completed initiative is the Bamboo-based Craft Concentration Centre at Sovima village, Chümoukedima, built at a cost of INR 4.48 crore. The centre serves as a comprehensive facility for bamboo artisans and houses a craft eco-museum for traditional craft preservation, a craft design lab, and natural dyeing and weaving facilities.
According to NEC, the project has contributed significantly to revitalising traditional crafts by providing artisans with a modern platform to re-engage with their skills and enhance their livelihoods. It also promotes employment generation and skill development in the region.
Beyond state-specific projects, the NEC informed that it released INR 56,22,37,739 in November for all eight North Eastern states, along with support for cultural festivals, seminars, research and other activities across the region. It said this reflects NEC’s ongoing efforts to boost development through infrastructure creation, cultural promotion and innovation-driven programmes.
The council also released INR 14,89,90,034 to various central agencies and cultural bodies for events and initiatives such as Purvottar Hindi Samagam, Lamka Youth Summit, North East Riders’ Meet, workshops on climate sustainability, multilingual dictionary development, AI and ML applications, and sectoral conclaves under Viksit Bharat 2047, the update stated.
Project-related interventions during the month included community development initiatives for indigenous groups, establishment of animal feed and pig breeding units, creation of piggery value-chain infrastructure, documentation of traditional medicinal knowledge, expansion of tele-education through smart virtual classrooms, and strengthening of STINER technology and innovation hubs. Support was also extended for sports-infrastructure development in Manipur.
These initiatives were implemented through key central agencies, most of them located in the region, including the North Eastern Region Community Resource Management Society (NERCRMS), North Eastern Development Finance Corporation (NEDFi), CSIR-North East Institute of Science & Technology (CSIR-NEIST), Education & Research Network (ERNET), North Eastern Handicrafts & Handlooms Development Corporation Ltd. (NEHHDC), Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR), North Eastern Regional Agricultural Marketing Corporation Ltd. (NERAMAC) and various universities of the North East, it added.
