The 14th Marsosang Football Trophy kicked off in Chuchuyimlang on December 8 with 11 teams competing for the title.

CHUCHUYIMLANG — The 14th edition of the Marsosang Football Trophy began at the Langpangkong Tsükong Government High School (GHS) playground, Chuchuyimlang, on Monday, with Director of Nagaland State Lotteries, Imsongmeren, attending as the special guest.
Addressing the gathering, Imsongmeren commended the organisers for maintaining the tournament’s tradition for over three decades. He termed the event a vital platform for nurturing local talent and underscored the significance of maintaining discipline both on and off the pitch.
He expressed hope that participants from the Marsosang Trophy would go on to represent Mokokchung in prestigious competitions such as the Dr. T Ao Trophy.
Earlier, delivering the welcome address, T Temsu of the organising committee reflected on the tournament’s legacy, recalling its inception in 1994 by the family of late former MLA Tsukjemwati in memory of Marsosang. He added that the competition was envisioned as a platform to inspire young people through football.
Temsu noted that the Rocky Club has been organising the event since its beginning, with support from the Tsukjemwati family. He further urged players to focus on discipline, fair play, and meaningful participation, stressing that winning isn’t everything.
Compere Temsusenla Jamir highlighted that the Marsosang Trophy pays tribute to Marsosang’s contributions to social welfare and community development.
Over the years, the event has grown into the district’s second-largest football tournament, following the MDFA Trophy. Held biennially, the event continues to attract teams across Mokokchung. N Obang Memorial Football Team are the defending title holders.
This year’s edition features 11 teams: Tongpangsanger Club, Vision Sporting Club, Rocky Club, Aroju Club, Team Saturday, Morung Boys United FC, Marsosang Sporting Club, Young Vision, Merasen, United Brothers, and N Obang Memorial Football Team.
The tournament will culminate on December 13, with the champions set to receive INR 1.5 lakh, while the runners-up will take home INR 1 lakh. The semi-finalists will be awarded INR 10,000 each, alongside individual accolades and a trophy for the Best Disciplined Team.
