The 16th Jalukie Valley Open Football Tournament kicked off in Samziuram, with ADC Albert Ezung declaring the valley the "land of football".

DIMAPUR — The 16th edition of the Jalukie Valley Open Football Tournament, organised by the Jalukie Valley Youth Organisation (JVYO), commenced at the Local Ground, Samziuram, on Monday.
The opening ceremony was attended by Albert Ezung, additional deputy commissioner of Jalukie Sub-Division, as the special invitee, according to an update.
In his address, declaring Jalukie valley as the “Land of football”, Ezung stated that the people of Zeliangrong are naturally gifted athletes, encouraging the youth to identify their talents and develop them into skills that can also support livelihood.
Highlighting the growing opportunities in the sports industry and the government’s emphasis on sports development, he urged the youth to make full use of every available platform.
He also praised the organisers for their dedication to the youth and players. Upon learning that all 25 affiliated villages possess standard-size football grounds, he challenged the gathering to strive towards making Jalukie valley not only the land of football but also the football capital of Nagaland.

JVYO President Masang, in his presidential address, appreciated the founding members for their vision of uniting the valley’s people through sports. He underscored the importance of connection, cooperation, and mutual support among the communities of Jalukie valley.
He encouraged players to learn from one another and excel in their profession. In his concluding remarks, he led a silent prayer in remembrance of the pioneers and leaders who have passed away.
Former JVYO President Hainkeing, speaking at the event, challenged the youth to prepare themselves mentally and physically, noting that they are the future leaders of the Zeliangrong community.
NL Pame, chairman of Samziuram, described Jalukie valley as a conglomeration of the three Zeliangrong brothers and a land of plenty. He encouraged players to showcase and develop their talents.
Kengimpeuding Hegui, general secretary of PDFA, urged players to make the best use of this platform to become star footballers. He called on the players to uphold this title not just in name but in action. He also encouraged the gathering to give back to the sport by coaching young players or officiating as referees even after retiring from active play.
A total of 16 teams from across the valley are participating in this year’s tournament. The oath-taking ceremony was led by Hiachanglak, secretary of Games and Sports, JVYO.
