- DIMAPUR — The
Zeliangrong Youth Organisation Nagaland (ZYON) on Monday met with the
Commissioner of Police Dimapur, Kevithuto Sophie, at the latter’s office in
Dimapur, seeking an update on the ongoing investigation into the murder of a
35-year-old from Mhaikam village in Peren district on April 7.
- Speaking to media persons after the meeting, ZYON president
R John Zeliang expressed disappointment that ‘there was no outcome’ till date.
While expressing their understanding towards the nature of the case, which
takes time, he came down heavily on the state government for lacking facilities
and prolonging cases.
- According to the organisation’s leader, it was time for the
government to deliver modern facilities for crime investigation. He reminded that
every time such unfortunate incidents occur in the state, the police have to
rush to the other states for forensic assistance.

- The police, he said, shared their difficulties as “the
forensic lab which is available in our state is almost like unavailable.”
Samples have to be sent outside the state, causing delays with many cases in
the queue, he pointed out.
- Zeliang further informed that the organisation has
temporarily suspended their proposed agitation, anticipating progress in the
investigation; but this time, they affirmed to continue with their proposed
agitation against the government.
- Phase-wise agitation
- Following a meeting with the civil society organisations
after their meeting with Dimapur CP, the organisation president told this
newspaper that a phase-wise agitation will start within this week.
- Although the date for the agitation was not fixed, he
informed that the agitation will not be for a day or two but will continue till
justice is delivered. The first phase of agitation, he said, will start from
Peren district by way of prohibiting government-registered vehicles from plying
and closing down government offices.
