DIMAPUR — The Zeliang Student's Union Nagaland (ZLSU) has expressed strong resentment over the Department of School Education's centralised rationalisation policy, which the union believes fails to account for the harsh realities faced by schools and students.
In a press release, the ZLSU stated that the department's decision clearly reflects the government's insincerity and its failure to properly assess the ground realities.
The union demanded decentralisation, arguing that rationalisation should be tailored to address the specific issues and challenges faced by schools, students, and communities.

To achieve this, rationalisation should be based on data-driven insights from the District Education Officer (DEO), Senior SDEO, and SDEO.
Moreover, the union maintained that rationalisation process should not be influenced by teachers' preferred postings, and no teacher should be relieved from a district without a suitable replacement, given the acute shortage of teachers in the area.
“The union stands committed to its decision that no release order should be issued from the affected schools without proper reliever in the middle of the academic which will jeopardise the students' carrier,” it stated.
The ZLSU urged the department to immediately intervene and review its decision in the larger interest of the students and the community.
