DIMAPUR — The Yimkhiung Union Kohima has condemned the alleged sexual abuse and “life-threatening physical assault” committed against a minor girl and her family members by a man in the Kohima district on May 12.
According to the union, the incident occurred at around 7:30 pm. It stated that such acts of violence against a minor are unacceptable and stand against humanity and decency.
Unequivocally standing in solidarity with the victim and her family, the union condemned the reprehensible act in the strongest possible terms. It stated that violent misconduct against women and minor girls constitutes a serious violation of human dignity and fundamental rights, while also fostering fear, insecurity, and social unrest within the community.

The union appealed to the competent authority to take prompt and decisive legal action against the accused so that justice prevails. It called upon society at large to stand firmly united against all forms of gender-based abuse and to actively promote peace, justice, and a safe environment for all.
Stating that remaining silent against heinous acts towards women only emboldens perpetrators and encourages further acts of oppression, the union added that collective action is essential for creating a peaceful and secure society.
