Kohima Police arrested a 28-year-old man accused of molesting and assaulting a minor girl in Phesama village on Tuesday evening.

KOHIMA — A 28-year-old man was arrested by Kohima Police on Wednesday for allegedly molesting a 14-year-old girl on Tuesday evening at Phesama village.
An official source informed that the accused was apprehended on Wednesday morning and produced before the court. The source added that an investigation into the matter is currently underway.

According to the victim's family, an FIR was lodged at the Women Police Station on Tuesday evening. The family stated that the victim had been staying at her cousin’s residence in Phesama at the time of the incident.
They recalled that at approximately 7 pm to 7.30 pm on Tuesday, the accused—who was unknown to the family—entered the house and began molesting the victim in the kitchen. When the minor resisted, the accused reportedly turned violent and brutally assaulted her.

He also allegedly attacked other family members who attempted to intervene and rescue the girl. The family described the incident as an "attempt to rape."
They also expressed strong displeasure regarding the presence of the accused at the hospital where the victim was admitted on Tuesday night. While his intentions were unclear, the family stated they were distressed to see him searching for them at the medical facility prior to his arrest.
A family source shared that the victim sustained severe injuries and is currently receiving medical treatment. While she is reportedly out of danger, she is currently unable to consume food or engage in conversation due to the trauma and physical injuries.
The family appealed to the authorities to ensure a rigorous legal process and demanded that the accused not be allowed to walk free.
