WOKHA — A free dental check-up camp was organised on Tuesday at Yikhum village under Wokha district by Dr. Mhao Jungio, BDS, MDS (Specialist), Proprietor of Gums & Smile Dental Clinic, Wokha. The initiative aimed to provide accessible dental healthcare services to the rural population.
Conducted on the theme “Better Teeth, Better Health”, the camp underscored the importance of oral hygiene in overall well-being. Medicines for the programme were sponsored by Woben Medical Wholesale, whose proprietor highlighted the challenges faced by villagers in accessing medicines, particularly in remote areas.
The outreach programme primarily catered to elderly residents, persons with disabilities, and individuals with restricted mobility, many of whom are unable to travel outside their villages for dental care.

Organisers also sought to address the lack of awareness regarding oral hygiene, which often leads to neglect of dental conditions until they become severe.
Services provided during the camp included free registration, dental consultation, tooth restoration, extractions, and oral health awareness sessions.
Several cases of long-neglected oral conditions, including loosening of teeth and untreated decay, were attended to. Patients were also informed that they would be eligible for free registration and a 30 per cent discount on further treatment at the clinic.
Beneficiaries ranged from a four-year-old child to the oldest patient aged 87 years, reflecting the inclusive nature of the programme.
Expressing gratitude, Zanbemo Kithan, pastor of Yikhum village, said the initiative was especially beneficial for residents unable to travel outside due to age, disability, or financial constraints.
He added that such programmes play a vital role in improving healthcare access and promoting preventive awareness in rural communities.
Dr. Jungio informed that this was the first free dental outreach camp conducted at Yikhum village and assured that similar initiatives would be organised in other villages in and around Wokha town.
He further stated that the programme is intended to be held annually, with repeat visits to ensure continuity of care and sustained oral health awareness.
The camp was well received by villagers, who appreciated the effort to bring free dental care and essential medicines directly to those living in remote areas.
