‘WoW’ workshop for PM SHRI students kicks off in Dimapur

DIMAPUR — A two-day ‘World of Work’ (WoW) workshop for students from four PM SHRI schools in Nagaland commenced at Kuda Youth Hall, Dimapur, on Thursday.

The programme is being held under the aegis of the Ministry of Education, Government of India, through PARAKH (Performance Assessment, Review, and Analysis of Knowledge for Holistic Development), NCERT, New Delhi, in collaboration with Samagra Shiksha Nagaland and SCERT Nagaland, an update stated.

“This initiative marks a significant step in advancing the objectives of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, particularly in promoting skill development, vocational exposure, and experiential learning among secondary school students.

“It aims to prepare learners for the changing landscape of the 21st -century workplace by bridging the gap between classroom learning and real-world application,” it stated.

Students from PM SHRI GHSS Chümoukedima, PM SHRI GHS Naharbari, PM SHRI GHS Burma Camp, and PM SHRI GHS Thahekhu are participating in the workshop.

The event seeks to orient students towards diverse and emerging career pathways, including those identified under the 36 job sectors mapped by the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE), while also introducing them to new possibilities in fields such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), green technologies, and creative industries.

Delivering the keynote address, Dr. Chumbeni Kikon, Joint Mission Director, Samagra Shiksha Nagaland, underscored the importance of empowering young learners through early vocational orientation and 21st -century skill-building.

She highlighted how initiatives like WoW are enabling schools to move beyond traditional academics and help students make informed choices about their future careers.

A special video message was also shared by Prof. Indrani Bhaduri, head and CEO, PARAKH, NCERT, New Delhi.

Prof. Bhaduri emphasised the need for integrating skill-based learning, vocational education, and experiential assessments into regular schooling. She encouraged teachers and school leaders to provide students with opportunities for hands-on learning, internships, and project-based experiences that connect education to employability.

Officials from Samagra Shiksha Nagaland, Department of School Education (DoSE), SCERT, NBSE, and heads of the four participating PM SHRI schools attended the inaugural session and the training.

The workshop features interactive sessions and practical activities facilitated by resource persons Elangbam Ashakiran Chanu and Kavita Ghosh, who bring expertise in vocational pedagogy and youth development.

Over the two days, students will engage in activities designed to build career awareness, teamwork, innovation, and problem-solving skills aligned with the World of Work framework.

The workshop will conclude on October 17 with reflections and presentations from participating students, followed by an interactive panel discussion on shaping the future of work-ready education in schools.

“The event underscores a shared national vision — to prepare every learner for life, livelihood, and lifelong learning in an ever-evolving world of opportunities,” the update stated.

Earlier, the inaugural session was chaired by Freda Angami, Assistant District Coordinator, District Mission Authority, Samagra Shiksha, Dimapur.
