DIMAPUR — The Federal Government of Nagaland (FGN) will be observing Naga National Martyrs’ Day on October 18 at 10 am at Chedema Peace Camp, Kohima.

In a press release, the FGN stated that the Naga National Martyrs’ Day marks the death anniversary of Zasibito Nagi of Jotsoma who was assassinated on this day in 1952.

The day is observed to honour Zasibito and all other martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the Naga struggle.

“The Naga National Martyrs’ Day is also a day of reflection, a commitment to remember, a reminder of God’s faithfulness, and a call to the task that lies before us to ensure that the valour, sufferings, and sacrifices of our martyrs inspire us to transcend our differences.

“Today, we recognise the differences that do emerge in all human pursuits and struggles for aspirations. We acknowledge the need for humility and truthful understanding to build our nation together,” the release stated.

The FGN requested Nagas across various villages and regions to pay tribute to Naga martyrs by visiting local monoliths and memorial stones on October 18 at 7 am. The gesture involves laying wreaths or placing flowers and offering a prayer as a symbolic act of remembrance.

Further, the FGN requested all Nagas worldwide to observe a two-minute silence at 11 am on October 18, dedicating the time to prayer, contemplation, and reflection.
