DIMAPUR — The Centre for Naga Tribal Language Studies, Nagaland University, Kohima Campus, organised a one-day workshop at its premises on ‘Language revitalisation in Northeast India’ on Tuesday with Dr. Vijay A D’Souza, director of North East Institute of Language and Culture, Guwahati, Assam, as the resource person.
According to an update, the workshop examined indigenous languages not merely as instruments of communication but as embodiments of history, culture, and identity.
It highlighted that most languages are declining due to shrinking intergenerational transmission, globalisation, and the dominance of larger regional and global languages and added that such workshops provide space to reflect on the challenges faced, as well as to share knowledge and strategies from community members and scholars who are active participants in the language revitalisation process.

The workshop was attended by scholars, faculty, and community members from across Nagaland.
