DIMAPUR — A one-day workshop titled “Navigating the journey together” for families of persons with disabilities (PwDs) was held at the DC conference hall in Zunheboto on Wednesday.
The programme was jointly organised by the Office of the State Commissioner for Persons with Disabilities (SCPD), Department of Social Welfare, Kohima, in collaboration with the Office of the Deputy Commissioner of Zunheboto, a DIPR report stated.
The workshop aimed to create awareness, provide guidance, and strengthen support systems for families of persons with disabilities. The event brought together officials, experts, and participants to discuss key issues and share experiences.
Supervisor of SCPD Ruvuorienuo Juliana hosted the programme, while Programme Coordinator of SCPD Ashe Kiba delivered a session on “Navigating the journey together". Programme Officer of SCPD Viketukho Nakhro spoke on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (RPwD) Act, 2016, highlighting legal provisions and entitlements.

Short speeches were delivered by DC Zunheboto Dharam Raj and Welfare Inspector H Sasuli Sumi, who highlighted the importance of inclusive development and community support.
Senior Psychologist from the Department of Developmental Paediatrics, Christian Institute of Health Sciences and Research (CIHSR), Chümoukedima, Orentsani N Kithan conducted a session on “Navigating through emotions and stress”, addressing the psychological challenges faced by families and caregivers.
The programme concluded with an open discussion, allowing participants to interact with experts and share their concerns.
