DIMAPUR — A woman who arrived at Dimapur airport from Pune was allegedly molested in an autorickshaw in a disturbing incident that occurred on June 15 around 1:00 pm.

According to delayed reports, the woman, who had arrived from Pune, boarded an autorickshaw from 4th Mile, requesting to be dropped at the Dimapur taxi stand. However, instead of taking the designated route, the driver diverted the vehicle towards Niuland road. During the journey, the male passenger accompanying the driver allegedly molested her despite her repeated protests.

When her calls for help were ignored by the driver, the victim jumped from the moving vehicle in a desperate attempt to escape, sustaining serious injuries in the process. Passers-by who witnessed the incident intervened and apprehended the two accused.

The victim is currently undergoing treatment at the Christian Institute of Health Sciences and Research (CIHSR), and a First Information Report (FIR) has been lodged at the Women Police Station, Dimapur.

WCH demands swift justice

In response, the Western Chakhesang Hoho (WCH) has expressed unequivocal condemnation over the alleged molestation and assault on a Chakhesang woman, stating that it was not only a criminal act but also a grave violation of women’s safety and dignity.

In a statement on Tuesday, the WCH demanded that law enforcement agencies ensure urgent and thorough investigation and enforce the strictest punishment against the perpetrators as per the law.

“The judicial process must be expedited so that justice is not delayed and a clear message is sent that such heinous crime is not tolerated,” the WCH stated.

It further urged the law enforcement agencies to demonstrate zero tolerance for violence against women and uphold the sanctity of justice without compromise.

“The dignity and safety of our women are non-negotiable. Let this serve as a stern warning to all anti-social elements: such acts of depravity will face the full force of the law, without leniency or delay,” it added.
