DIMAPUR — Dimapur Police have busted a vehicle scam involving a gang that duped car owners and rental agencies by posing as used car dealers. The operation led to the arrest of three individuals and the recovery of 15 vehicles.

According to a press release from the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime)/PRO, the arrested individuals — identified as Mughaboto (39), Yambothung Ngullie (22), and Kinigha Chishi (23) — targeted unsuspecting vehicle owners and car rental companies by expressing interest in purchasing or renting vehicles.

Once they obtained possession of the vehicles, the accused allegedly used them as collateral to obtain loans from third parties, thereby defrauding both individual owners and rental firms. Police said the gang used this modus operandi to secure substantial sums of money through multiple fraudulent loan agreements.

The 15 recovered vehicles were tracked down from different locations and have since been returned to their rightful owners. A case has been registered in connection with the scam and further investigation is underway.
