The Wokha Town Ao Baptist Church Youth Ministry hosts its third penalty shootout tournament.
WOKHA — The Wokha Town Ao Baptist Church (WTABC) Youth Ministry organised its third Open Penalty Shootout Tournament at the Wokha Town Public Ground on Tuesday.
Delivering the keynote address, Lotha Youth Hoho President and match patron Mharhomo V Murry commended the youth ministry for hosting the third edition of the tournament. He highlighted the role of sports, particularly football, in shaping the character and discipline of young people.
Recalling Dr. T Ao, Murry noted that the sport is not merely about winning matches but also about perseverance, teamwork, discipline, and respect. He encouraged players to give their best on the field while upholding sportsmanship throughout the competition.
Murry further urged the youth to unite in building a healthier society and cautioned them against substance abuse. Pointing out collective responsibility, he appealed to all to work together towards making Wokha a drug-free district.
Youth Pastor Moajungba stated that the primary objective of the tournament was to bring together youngsters and members from all churches in Wokha Town, offering them a platform to showcase their talents. He informed that a total of 22 teams participated in the one-day event.
The tournament was officially declared open with a ceremonial kick-off by the match patron. Tsumang FC emerged as champions, while Avengers finished as runners-up. K Meribemo Kikon was adjudged Best Goalkeeper.
