Wild elephants damaged a newly established rubber plantation and paddy field at Azumra Hayi in Wokha district on Saturday.

WOKHA — A newly established rubber plantation at Azumra Hayi under Lakhuti village in Wokha was partially damaged after a herd of wild elephants invaded the area on Saturday, July 11.
Speaking to Eastern Mirror, farmer Chenithung Ngullie said that six to seven elephants, including a calf, were sighted in the plantation, during which his farm hut was destroyed.
The plantation belonging to Chenithung and Nongothung Ngullie sustained partial damage, while their adjoining paddy field and newly planted rubber saplings were also affected.
Ngullie said that this was the second time the wild elephants had entered the plantation. During their first visit in May, they did not cause any damage.
He added that Azumra Hayi is a new rubber plantation site established this year, where around 13 households are currently engaged in rubber cultivation.
