The Western Sümi Hoho condemned the alleged misconduct of a police personnel who reportedly threatened a delivery worker with a firearm, calling for justice and communal harmony.
DIMAPUR — The Western Sümi Hoho (WSH) has strongly condemned the alleged misconduct of a police personnel who reportedly threatened an innocent delivery worker with a firearm at Naga United village in Chümoukedima district.
In a press release, the Hoho expressed deep regret, outrage and sorrow over the incident, which occurred on August 1. According to the WSH, the accused police personnel, identified as Blessto Zhimo of Ghukiye village, allegedly drew a firearm and threatened Khruvota, a delivery worker from Dzulhami village, at Naga United village.
The Hoho stated that such an act by a member of the police force, entrusted with the responsibility of protecting and serving the public, was unacceptable, unjustifiable and amounted to a serious breach of public trust.
Condemning the incident in the strongest terms, the WSH said the alleged abuse of authority not only harmed an individual but also undermined public confidence and created fear and insecurity within an otherwise peaceful community.

The Hoho further expressed concern that the incident had the potential to disturb the long-standing harmony between the Sümi and Chakhesang communities.
It described Naga United village as a symbol of unity and coexistence, adding that the reckless actions of an individual should not be allowed to weaken the strong bonds of trust, mutual respect and brotherhood built over generations.
Expressing sympathy to the victim and his family, the WSH conveyed its sincere apology for the trauma caused by the incident.
It stated that no individual, particularly someone earning an honest livelihood, should have to face intimidation or fear while carrying out daily work. The Hoho also affirmed its solidarity with the victim and pledged its full support.
The WSH further warned against any actions that could create animosity or misunderstanding between communities, stating that it would take appropriate action against individuals found attempting to disturb communal harmony.
Calling for peace and restraint, the Hoho urged all concerned to ensure that justice is served and that such incidents are not repeated.
