‘We are tracking him’: Nagaland DGP says police know Robert Kikon’s whereabouts

DIMAPUR — Nagaland Director General of Police (DGP) Rupin Sharma said on Tuesday that police are aware of the whereabouts of absconding accused Robert Kikon, but declined to reveal details, saying efforts were underway to bring him back to India.

“We are tracking him,” Sharma said when asked about the case by Hornbill TV.

He maintained that police had made “decent efforts” to trace Kikon and were aware of places he had visited and where he was believed to be.

“I will not get into details because obviously if he comes to know, he will again abscond,” the DGP said.

Kikon is wanted in connection with a POCSO case and has been absconding since October 2024 following allegations of sexual misconduct involving minors. An arrest warrant issued against him could not be executed, following which the Dimapur POCSO court issued a proclamation directing him to appear before the court.

Sharma cautioned, however, that locating an accused outside the country does not mean he can be brought back immediately.

“Bringing a criminal from outside by deportation or by extradition, it is not an easy thing to do,” he said, adding that the process involves coordination across countries and agencies, as well as legal and diplomatic considerations.

“It takes time,” Sharma said. He added that police were aware, or had been aware, of Kikon’s whereabouts and expressed hope that he would be brought back “sooner than later”.
