- DIMAPUR — The United Sangtam Likhum Pümji
(USLP), in a letter to the Inspector General of Assam Rifles (IGAR) (North), HQ
Kohima, sought a fair and thorough investigation into the death of Tsalichum
Sangtam of the 12th Assam Rifles.
- The USLP, the apex tribal body of the Sangtam community,
noted in the letter that it is extremely disturbed by the death of Tsalichum on
the premises of AR Composite Hospital, Shokhuvi.
- Stating that the USLP has been patiently waiting for the
authorities to release the post-mortem and forensic reports for more than 48
hours, it expressed disappointment that no initial reports have been received
even after the post-mortem formalities were completed, indicating a
lackadaisical attitude on the part of the investigating authorities.

- The organisation demanded that a thorough and impartial
investigation be conducted without bias, that all forensic reports be completed
properly, and that they be submitted and communicated to this office without
further delay to maintain peace and harmony in the region.
- ‘The USLP fully believes in your esteemed authority that a
fair investigation will be done without any prejudice, as the nature of the
death inside the highly secure camp and in the premises of the hospital cannot
be ruled out as a suicide case,’ it read.
- It was also mentioned that the USLP will fully cooperate in
the investigation process where and when needed to ensure justice is delivered
to the bereaved family without further delay and added that any situation that
deteriorates due to negligence or lapses by the authorities will not be the
responsibility of the USLP.
