Department of Urban Development lauds Swachhata Hi Seva Campaign 2025 in Nagaland with leaders adopting dumpsites for cleanliness.

DIMAPUR — The Urban Development department lauded the ongoing activities under the Swachh Bharat Mission initiative “Swachhata Hi Seva” Campaign 2025, being undertaken by all 39 urban local bodies (ULBs) in Nagaland. The nation-wide cleanliness campaign will culminate on October 2.
According to an update, Advisor for Urban Development and Municipal Affairs, Zhaleo Rio, and the Commissioner and Secretary for Urban Development and Municipal Affairs, Kekhrievor Kevichüsa, commended the efforts under the campaign.
This year also marked the launch of another initiative by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs—the “Swachh Shehar Jodi” (SSJ). The scheme pairs performing ULBs with underperforming ones for 100 days of high-impact partnership to encourage inter-city collaboration and exchange of best practices in urban sanitation.

In Nagaland, the Jalukie Town Council, winner of the Promising Swachh Shehar Award 2024, will mentor Aboi Town Council under the SSJ initiative.
A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to this effect was signed on Saturday between the two ULBs in a ceremony chaired virtually by Union Minister for Housing and Urban Affairs, Manohar Lal, through hybrid participation from Sonipat, Haryana. The event was also attended by Manpon C Konyak, MLA of Aboi.
The State Mission Director, SBM-Urban, Kezhochole Rhetso, informed that as part of the SHS 2025 initiative, several legislators have taken responsibility through the adoption of dumpsites designated as “cleanliness target units” (CTUs) to monitor and accelerate their transformation.

The department expressed gratitude for the dumpsite adoption initiatives by the members of the Nagaland Legislative Assembly. The Jalukie dumpsite at Chuharuau was adopted by Deputy Chief Minister TR Zeliang. The Chümoukedima dumpsite near Vidima was adopted by Zhaleo Rio, who is also the chairman of DPDB Chümoukedima.
The Kohima dumpsite at Dzuruzou was adopted by Advisor for School Education and SCERT Kekhrielhoulie Yhome. The Phek dumpsite at Satheri was adopted by MLA Azo Nienu. The Tseminyu dumpsite at Thonfpü-a Zülow was adopted by MLA and Chairman DPDB Tseminyu AR Jwenga Seb. The Pfutsero dumpsite at Leboku was adopted by MLA Dr. Neisatuo Mero.
The department stated that the involvement of these elected representatives has imparted significant moral impetus to the ULBs, laying a firm foundation for a lasting impact and fostering collective responsibility towards scientific management of urban sanitation in Nagaland.
