- DIMAPUR — The
United Sangtam Students’ Conference (USSC) has directed all educational
institutions (both government and private) under Sangtam jurisdiction to
include the Nagaland Heritage Studies Textbook (Sangtam) in their curriculum,
starting from the 2025-2026 academic year.
- According to an update, this decision was made following a
joint meeting convened by the Sangtam Literature Board with the head GBs,
village council chairmen, school management and development committees, heads
of institutions, along with USSC and its federating units, on April 8 at
Hopongkyu Memorial Hall, Kiphire, and USBLA Mission Centre, Yangli,
respectively.
- It was further mentioned that the Sangtam Literature Board,
in collaboration with the USSC, discussed the importance of preserving and
promoting the native language.

- After thorough deliberation, the house
unanimously decided to introduce the Nagaland Heritage Studies Textbook
(Sangtam) in all schools under Sangtam jurisdiction.
- “This decision is made with the belief that learning one's
own native language will help the students to connect themselves with their
cultural roots and strengthen their identity and sense of belonging,” it read,
adding that the USSC, in collaboration with the Sangtam Literature Board, will
provide necessary support and guidance to help schools implement this subject
smoothly.
- While requesting all educational institutions to strictly
follow this directive, it was stated that non-compliance will be taken
seriously and may lead to further action by the USSC.
