DIMAPUR — The first edition of the three-day Christmas Night Carnival 2025, organised by the United Colony Council (UCC) under DMC Ward No. 20, got underway on Friday at the playground of Government Higher Secondary School, Half Nagarjan, with pomp and gaiety.
In his welcome address, the UCC chairman Dr. Kahuka Sema, informed that the event is being organised to raise funds for development of public infrastructure within the colony.
He outlined that no development work was initiated in the colony for over 38 years, despite being one of the oldest colonies within Dimapur municipality.
He sought concerted efforts from all the residents towards building the colony.

Speaking on the occasion, the chief patron and chairman of Dimapur Urban Council Chairmen Federation (DUCCF), Zasivikho Zakiesato, termed the occasion as not just an event on a calendar but a celebration of unity, faith, cultural and community spirit.
Asserting that beauty is born when people come together with one heart and one purpose, he said that the same beauty was visible even on the occasion.
He lauded the involvement of women, youth, elders and children in making the event a success.
Zakiesato said their dedication proved that leadership is not about titles but about service. To the participants and performers, he ascribed them as the voice and heart of the celebration, while to the children and youth he said they are the future and present leaders.
“Let this carnival be a message to all that Dimapur thrives when its people are united. Let the carols we sing carry peace to every home, let the laughter shared heal all wounds and let the love we express overflow our daily lives,” he said.
He further wished that Christmas would bring renewed faith, courage to do what is right, and strength to work together hand-in-hand as one community.
The special guest and chairperson of Child Welfare Committee, Dimapur, Moamenla Yaden, shared the joy of Christmas based on Scripture from the book of Isaiah.
She lauded the colony council for initiating the event aimed at building a better society. Terming the event as a humble beginning, she encouraged the members to carry on the good works stating that their little efforts would one day bring about mighty transformation.
