Two NSCN/GPRN-K (Michael) cadres were arrested in Kohima over alleged extortion targeting truck drivers.
DIMAPUR — Kohima Police have apprehended two cadres of the NSCN/GPRN-K (Michael) faction for their alleged involvement in an extortion racket targeting truck drivers along National Highway-29.
According to a press release issued by Kohima Police, the arrests were made on Saturday after police received credible information at around 11:40 am that unidentified individuals were extorting money from truck drivers along National Highway-29.
Acting on the information, a police team was immediately constituted and dispatched to the reported location near New SKV Petrol Pump, Merhülietsa Colony, Kohima.
On reaching the area, the team observed individuals matching the description received. After maintaining discreet surveillance and confirming their alleged activities, the suspects were apprehended.
During a personal search, police recovered several extortion slips bearing the name of the Government of the People's Republic of Nagaland (Finance Committee) from their possession.

The arrested persons have been identified as Beilie Rupreo (37), SS Leacy, NSCN/GPRN-K (Michael), a permanent resident of Chiechama village under Chiephobozou Police Station and presently residing at Sovima village near Old Air Field Colony, Chümoukedima; and Kevingulie Metha (39), SS Khapur, NSCN/GPRN-K (Michael), a permanent resident of Nachama village under Chiephobozou Police Station, Kohima district, and presently residing at High School Colony, Kohima.
Following the arrests and recovery of the alleged incriminating materials, a case has been registered at South Police Station, Kohima, and an investigation is underway.
Police said the accused are being subjected to sustained interrogation to uncover the larger alleged extortion network, including other operatives, financiers, and possible linkages to extortion activities in other districts.
Kohima Police reiterated its commitment to maintaining law and order and ensuring that the district remains free from intimidation and extortion.
The police urged citizens, transporters, traders, and business establishments to report incidents of extortion or unlawful demands to the nearest police station without fear, stating that the identity of informants and complainants would be kept strictly confidential.
