DIMAPUR — The North East Institute of Social Sciences and Research (NEISSR) conducted a two-day IBM Skill Build Programme at BAM Hall, NEISSR, Chümoukedima, aimed at enhancing students’ proficiency in digital technologies, artificial intelligence (AI), and employability skills.
According to an update, the sessions were led by Deepneel Majumdar, subject matter expert and manager at EduNet Foundation, who served as the resource person for the programme.
Majumdar, an M.Tech in Computer Science and Engineering and a Ph.D. scholar, is an AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner with over two decades of experience in academia and the IT industry. His expertise includes cloud computing (AWS, IBM Cloud), AI, machine learning, data science, and programming languages such as Python, Java, and PHP.
The first day focused on introducing participants to the IBM Skills Build Platform, a free, globally recognised digital learning initiative by IBM designed to provide individuals with access to cutting-edge training in emerging technologies and professional development.

Majumdar guided participants through the platform’s six foundational courses: exploring data, exploring artificial intelligence, exploring cloud computing, exploring cybersecurity, exploring quantum computing, and exploring emerging technologies.
During the session, participants completed the first module, “Exploring data”, gaining insights into data fundamentals, data-driven decision-making, and the growing importance of data across diverse industries. The interactive session encouraged learners to pursue further courses on the platform to enhance their digital literacy and employability potential.
The second day focused on AI and employability skills. Majumdar elaborated on the key types of AI—decision-making AI, predictive AI, generative AI, and data-based AI—explaining their applications and influence in today’s digital ecosystem. His engaging approach enabled students to relate AI concepts to practical, everyday uses in business, education, and technology.
The session also included a segment on résumé writing and career development, where Majumdar emphasised the critical elements of an effective résumé, including personal information, educational qualifications, professional experience, technical and soft skills, certifications, achievements, and a clearly stated career objective. He further highlighted the importance of a well-written cover letter, describing it as a concise and purposeful introduction accompanying a résumé.
The IBM Skill Build Programme concluded with an interactive exchange between the resource person and participants, allowing students to clarify concepts and share reflections on the sessions.
