Tuensang observes Adolescent Health and Wellness Day at GMS Ngangpong, focusing on mental health.

DIMAPUR — The Department of Health and Family Welfare, Tuensang, observed Adolescent Health and Wellness Day on the theme “Mental health” at Government Middle School (GMS) Ngangpong under the Tuensang Sadar block on September 25.
The programme was conducted by the District Health Society (DHS) Tuensang, according to an update from the office of the chief medical officer.
During the programme, Medical Officer, Rashtriya Bal Swasthya Karyakram (RBSK), Dr. Wapangla educated the participants on recognising signs and symptoms of mental health concerns, healthy ways of coping with stress, and the importance of expressing their feelings and seeking help when needed.
She stressed that mental health is an important component of overall health and noted that seeking support from parents, teachers, counsellors, or health professionals is a positive step.

Adolescent Counsellor at District Hospital Tuensang Vistl delivered a health talk to help students understand the importance of mental well-being. She addressed the meaning of mental health, common mental health problems among adolescents, and the effects of stress, anxiety, and other emotional difficulties.
The session included interactive activities and discussions to encourage students to communicate openly about their feelings and promote a supportive environment.
A health check-up was also conducted during the programme, where a total of 72 students were registered, comprising 39 boys and 33 girls.
The medical team comprised Dr. Wapang, Medical Officer (RBSK); Dr. Thonti, Medical Officer (RBSK); Suthem, Technical Assistant (RBSK); Yimsotola, ANM (RBSK); and Vistl, Adolescent Counsellor at District Hospital Tuensang.
