Communities across Nagaland clean school surroundings under the Our School, Our Responsibility drive, an initiative led by ShikshaLokam’s Mantra4Change.
DIMAPUR — Schools and communities across multiple districts in Nagaland have come together to clean the spaces surrounding local institutions as part of “Our school, our responsibility”, an initiative led by ShikshaLokam’s Mantra4Change in collaboration with YouthNet.
According to an update, the initiative is being observed from September 15, which marks the International Day of Democracy, and will conclude on October 2, observed as Gandhi Jayanti and Swachh Bharat Diwas.
As part of the campaign, communities are encouraged to take responsibility for the first 100 metres around their schools, covering the stretch children usually walk through, wait in, and pass every day.
Communities across Kohima, Kiphire, Tseminyu, Tuensang, and Mon took part in the cleanliness drive around their local schools.
The activities commenced on September 15 at Government High School Chingmelen in Tuensang, followed by Government High School Yangphi and Government Middle School PHE Ward in Kiphire, as well as Government Primary School Tseminyu and Government High School Tseminyu New Town.
On September 25, Government Higher Secondary School Tseminyu and Kano Memorial School in Tizit village conducted their respective drives. These were followed by Government Primary School Longphaoh village and Government Primary School Kenuozou on September 26.
Through these efforts, students, schools, and communities are collaborating to promote cleaner surroundings, civic responsibility, and collective ownership of public spaces. The initiative encourages communities to make cleanliness a shared responsibility and create safer and healthier surroundings for children.
