Chingthur Foundation conducts training on soil, water and fertiliser management and compost-making in Kingniu village.

DIMAPUR — A one-day training programme on soil, water and fertiliser management and compost-making was conducted at Kingniu village council hall under Noklak district on August 15 with the participation of 75 farmers from the community.
The training was sponsored by the Azim Premji Foundation (APF) and implemented by the Chingthur Foundation (CF), in collaboration with the Kingniu village council.
An update from Chingthur Foundation stated that the training began with a welcome address delivered by Lusang, chairman of Kingniu village council, followed by an invocation prayer said by Chillio, pastor of Kingniu Baptist Church.

In his opening remarks, Rev. Dingshungngamang Kamei, executive director of Chingthur Foundation, highlighted the importance of sustainable farming practices in ensuring food security and strengthening the local economy.
In the first session, Lungaithui Malangmei, CF programme manager, spoke on soil, water and fertiliser management. It stated that farmers were trained on understanding soil health, efficient water management techniques and the balanced use of fertilisers to enhance crop yield.
In the afternoon, a hands-on training on compost-making was conducted. The session emphasised the importance of compost in sustainable farming with a live demonstration on step-by-step compost preparation and best practices for maintaining compost quality.
The initiative was closely aligned with the zero waste campaign, encouraging villagers to convert all bio-matter including kitchen waste and homestead by-products into premium organic compost.
In her closing remarks, Akeina Gonmei, chairperson of Chingthur Foundation, commended the farmers for their active participation and urged them to replicate the training in their own homesteads.
It stated that each farmer has been assigned to practice compost preparation at home. It further stated that the training marked a significant step toward promoting eco-friendly farming, conserving the environment and ensuring sustainable livelihoods.
