DIMAPUR — Mon division of the Health department has conducted a one-day training on routine immunisation (RI) at the DRDA hall in Mon town on April 30.
An update stated that the programme began with an opening address delivered by Dr. Wungyong, district immunisation officer (RCH & UIP), who underscored the importance of strengthening routine immunisation services and ensuring full coverage for all eligible beneficiaries.
The technical session was led by Dr. MAH Azhar, WHO surveillance medical officer of Mokokchung unit, wherein he emphasised the critical role of micro-planning in delivering effective immunisation services. He highlighted that micro-plans should be prepared biannually to ensure systematic coverage.
It stated that the participants were trained on essential components of RI micro-planning including headcount surveys of pregnant women and children, mapping of sub-centre areas, tracking of missed children, session planning, vaccine and logistics estimation and preparation of work plans and supervision strategies.

It added that a detailed practical session has enabled the participants to gain hands-on experience with various formats and tools required for effective implementation at the grassroots level.
Besides, the training also highlighted strategies for community engagement, school immunisation and reaching out to dropout children along with proper biomedical waste management and contingency planning.
Meanwhile, the Health department has reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring that every child in Mon district is immunised and protected against vaccine-preventable diseases. It added that despite challenges, continuous efforts are being made through meticulous planning, capacity building and active community participation.
It further encouraged the public to support and cooperate with health workers to ensure that all children receive timely vaccinations, contributing to a healthier and safer future for the district.
The training was attended by medical officers, community health officers, GNM, ANM, block programme managers, DPM and Asha coordinators from across the district.
