Officials, resource persons and women framers on the concluding day of the training on pig farming for tribal women at Jalukie.

DIMAPUR — College of Veterinary Science and Animal Husbandry, Jalukie, Peren district, conducted three-day training on ‘Building the capacity of tribal women farmers in pig reproduction and artificial insemination,’ from January 7 to the 9th with a total of 28 participants.
During the inaugural function, a ‘Training manual’ was jointly released by Dr. I Shakuntala, Dean of the college; Prof. Gunjan Das, HoD, Veterinary Medicine; and Dr. Tukheswar Chutia, Assistant Professor, Dept. of Veterinary Gynaecology and Obstetrics-cum-Course Director of the training, an update stated.
In his welcome address, Dr. Tukheswar Chutia briefed about the importance of upskilling women in the field of pig breeding farming, while Dr. Gunjan Das encouraged the farmers to become potential pig producer in the state. Dr. I Shakuntala highlighted the importance of scientific breeding of pigs and encouraged the trainees to acquire technical knowledge from the training to become more competent in pig production.
During the training, different aspects of breeding pig management namely heat detection, artificial insemination, feeding and management at different stages, tips of farrowing management, piglet management and sanitary measures were discussed.
Besides, hands on practice on artificial insemination were provided to the trainees.
The programme was concluded on January 9, which was attended by Dr. Tsileu Haikube, Chief Veterinary Officer (CVO), Govt. of Nagaland, as the special guest.
In his speech, Dr. Haikube expressed that Naga women are playing a crucial role in the piggery sector of the state and encouraged the farmers to strengthen pig farming with the scientific skills acquired from the training.
The dean of the college distributed certificate to all the trainees.
The resource persons involved in the training programme were Dr. Tukheswar Chutia; Dr. T Gyaneshori Devi, Assistant Professor, Department of LPM; Dr. Merina Devi, Assistant Professor, Department of LFC; Dr. Khwairakpam Ratika, Assistant Professor, Dept. of ANN; Dr. Sedeneinuo Suohu, Assistant Professor, Dept. of VPP; and Dr. Iluheibe, Farm Manager, Dept. of LFC.
