- DIMAPUR — A
two-day district-level farmers training from traditional to scientific fish
farming practices and overview of giant freshwater prawn farming (Microbrachium
rosenbergii) for sustainable aquaculture is being held at Rehangki conference
hall in Jalukie town on May 6 and 7.
- The training was organised by Agriculture Technology
Management Agency (ATMA), Peren, under the initiative of Fish Farmers Interest
Groups (FIG), Peren, in association with the Department of Fisheries and
Aquatic Resources.
- A DIPR report stated that the proprietor of Kumar's Hatchery
in Kolkata, West Bengal, Avijit Kumar Kolay, was the resource person.

- During the technical session, Kolay pointed out the importance
of rearing fish in a scientific method for successful fish farming as it
directly impact fish health. He stated that scientific fish farming should
involve a combination of preventive measures such as proper water quality,
balance diet and sanitation.
- The resource person also explained that fish hatchery is a
facility where fish eggs are hatched and reared through their early life
stages.
- Delivering the keynote address during the inaugural
programme, district fishery officer and ATMA project director, C Dory Yanthan,
encouraged the fish farmers to judiciously take their time and learn the
benefits of fish rearing. She also called on the farmers to rear more local
fish for the market.
