DIMAPUR — The Commissioner of Police, Dimapur, has issued a traffic advisory imposing restrictions on the movement of multi-axle vehicles (MAVs) along the Tsiedukhru stretch of National Highway 29, citing highly fragile slope conditions.
According to the advisory issued on Thursday, MAVs will be allowed to move only during daylight hours, from 10 am to 5 pm, in small regulated intervals under direct supervision of traffic police.
The maximum speed on the stretch is limited to 20 kmph, and adequate spacing between vehicles must be maintained to reduce ground vibration.
Overloaded multi-axle trucks are strictly prohibited, with axle loads and payloads capped below legal limits, and no vehicle exceeding 30 tonnes gross vehicle weight will be allowed passage. NHIDCL and the Transport Department will assist police in monitoring compliance and removing any blockages caused by vehicle breakdowns or landslides, the advisory stated.

Further, NHIDCL shall, at all times, place sufficient machinery near the affected stretches, along with operators and support staff, to remove any blockage on the highway due to vehicle breakdowns or landslides/mudslides, it said.
Stating that traffic will be immediately suspended if officials detect any signs of slope distress or fresh movements, it also advised drivers to exercise caution and remain alert for debris or sudden rockfall, and MAV operators to cooperate fully with authorities.
The advisory has been issued in the interest of public safety to prevent accidents and potential highway blockages on this vulnerable section of NH-29, it added.
